Lila Bock, Celebration Of Life
Several picklers attended Lila Bock’s Celebration Of Life yesterday, she having passed away at the age of 84. Lila played pickleball with us for several years into her early 80s. She loved our game, having been a ardent tennis player for many years prior. Asthma caught up with her in recent years and she had to give up pickleball, BUT, she then formed a table tennis group with two tables in the basement of her house and played regularly! She led an active lifestyle and died as she lived, climbing the steps at the YMCA to attend a group class.
A quote from Albert Einstein sums up her philosophy on life: “It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge”.
And she was always a joy to play with on the courts!

2018 Montana Senior Olympics
Actually for the 2018 Senior Olympics kudos should go out to Barb and Mary for taking silver in their age group (I think they were in the 30 to 34 age group). Bart
Thanks, everyone! We had a good time in Polson ..... tough competition! Representing Helena were: Bart, Alex, Mary, Peggy, Joe, Cherie, and me. (I think that was everyone) ....and Tom (formerly from Helena) who now lives in Missoula. More than 1/3rd of the total Senior Olympics participants were there for Pickleball (128 people). Next year, Senior Olympics will be in Missoula. I hope more of you seniors will decide to participate.................... Too rainy to play today, I guess ..... see you-all when the weather clears up. Barb
Thanks everyone. We all had a great time. The best is that we Helenans were the most fun competitors anyone played with. Lots of laughter and encouragement and good sportsmanship. It was fun. Mary

Helena Pickleball Culture
The culture of the large group of Helena pickleball players in the MWF morning sessions is well described by one astute person:
"The informality of our group is one of our hallmarks!"
The morning scheduled sessions are very much a social scramble, mostly mixing all skill levels in catch-as-catch-can. There may be an informal challenge court and/or a beginners court sometimes as determined by the mix of better skilled and newbie players.
With many more hours available through out the week special ad hoc sessions can be arranged for newbies, drill practices, and various skill groups.
